The Challenge

The 2026 World Cup was a chance to reach viewers beyond the show’s regulars. But Windy City Weekend is a lifestyle show, not a sports show. The concept had to bring the tournament in without breaking the format.

02

The Insight

Food is the easiest way into another country’s culture.

Lifestyle viewers and soccer fans share little except an appetite. Tasting snacks from competing countries turned the tournament into something anyone could join, no soccer knowledge required.

The Strategy

Bring the World Cup into the show’s food format, with a creator whose audience already watches him taste the world.

Concept & format: I developed a World Cup tasting segment, with snacks from competing countries sampled on air. It tied the tournament to the show’s existing food content.

Creator fit: I brought in Tommy Winkler, known online as “The Food Guy,” who built his following on tasting food from around the world. He fit the show’s format and brought his own audience with him.

Cross-promotion: Winkler shared the segment with his followers, extending its reach well beyond the show’s own channels.
